A spring update from our sponsored riders

They say it never rain but it pours, and that seems very apt for this spring! I can’t remember when we last had such a cool, damp and late spring, but summer seems to be just around the corner and I’m looking forward to putting the AMZ padded jacket away for a few months! The bad weather has made life harder for my sponsored riders to get horses fit and ready for competitions, and of course proven to be very tricky for eventers to get their seasons underway. Here’s hoping we're over the worst and set for a summer of perfect ground and warm, sunny days! For now, here’s an update on the latest results and news from our stable of sponsored riders so you can track their progress.

Harry Wood & Ennisnag Stud

AMZ Saddle’s showjumping sponsored rider Harry Wood is currently riding for the famous Irish stud Ennisnag, and it’s been such a pleasure watching him in action with their fabulous horses. Our support has broadened to other members of the Ennisnag Stud team and we’re over the moon that such knowledgeable horse people rate our saddles! We’ll make sure we keep you in the loop with how Harry is doing and when he’s in action in the ring.

Pip Nixon

We’ve been keeping a beady eye on our sponsored rider Pip Nixon and her progress through a rather damp start to this year’s eventing season! Pip and her top ride Undalgo de Windsor were absolutely flying at Thoresby Horse Trials going double clear in the 3* and have since followed that up with a another 3* outing at Burnham Market with just a handful of XC time penalties denying them another double clear. More recently they’ve secured a superb third place in the Open Intermediate at Floors Castle, where Pip was also sixth with PRF Divo Mail - how’s that for a good day out?

Molly Selby

Our sponsored event rider Molly Selby has also had a disrupted start to her season (who hasn’t!) but she did manage runs at Breckenbrough and Northallerton with Ballytarsna R Fowler, who took 10th place in the BE90 at Breckenbrough and then stepped up to 100cm to jump a lovely double clear!  Kylemore Pursuit jumped a lovely double clear at Northallerton for 5th place and Molly went on to secure two top-20 places in the BE100 at Floors Castle earlier this month, setting her up for an exciting summer to come.

Malcolm McColm

Michael is a very talented young show jumping rider who is based north of the border in Lanark, Scotland. Michael has been on a roll recently, racking up success after success with his string at Morris Equestrian Centre in Kilmarnock. Michael won the 138cm Highland Qualifier with his pony Tommy and then scored three wins with his grey Legend in the Highland JC, Newcomers and Foxhunters. A very worthwhile outing all round. We’ll keep you updated on his progress in the future!

Fearne Wharton

Young event rider based in Cumbrian, Fearne had a slightly late start to her season (thanks to the weather, of course!) but since then she’s been absolutely smashing it. She partnered her gelding Fudge to second place in the BE80 at Breckenbrough and followed that with fourth place and yet another double clear at Floors Castle!! Fearne also secured the third-place spot in the BE80 at Breckenbrough with Arktic Ayers with clear cross-country and just one pole down in the showjumping. We can’t wait to see how the rest of Fearne’s season goes.

In this month’s blog I’m taking a closer look at dressage saddles, including why people decide to invest in them, the different styles you can choose from and what you can expect from an AMZ dressage
